CHARACTER INFO.
Character Name: Kururugi, Suzaku
Canon: Code Geass R2, Episode 9
Character Appearance: Here. Holy shit don't zoom in, I don't know why that image is so huge. I clicked the magnifying glass and it went straight to his crotch. Don't.
Character Age: 18 (birthdate 7/10)
Pick A Number: 7 & 11.

Canon Setting:
When Suzaku was young, a war began between his home country of Japan and Britannia (which is essentially a modern amalgamation of North America's countries) over a valuable resource used in weaponry and other machines: sakuradite. This war has since grown to encompass more or less the entire world, with a majority of it being conquered by Britannia. After being conquered, each country was stripped of its name and rights and given an "area" number, instead. Japan, after being taken over, was dubbed "Area 11." Most of Europe and Asia are also under Britannia's control as of early R2, and the war has been going on for upwards of 10 years. People who live in "Areas" can apply to become honorary Britannian citizens, affording them some rights, but this is mostly reserved for people of some status or societal value, and those that do are often looked down on as traitors to their country. (In Suzaku's case, he applied for honorary citizenship and became a member of the Britannian military after leaving his home, and throughout the series as he gains more status in Britannia, he becomes more despised by his countrymen, regardless of his actions). Also of note is the hierarchy put into place by Britannia: the nobility is a Big Huge Deal, and people have less and less importance the further it trickles down. Still, the person of highest status in any other country would still be treated as less than the poorest Britannian.

The world of Code Geass is extremely technologically advanced, with primary weaponry coming in the form of Giant Fuckin Robots called Knightmare Frames, which are piloted from the inside by operators known as devicers. Most cell phones, TV screens, projectors, vehicles, and other machinery are more advanced than their real world present-day counterparts (and are, in a lot of cases, powered in the majority by sakuradite). Modern medicine is extremely up to snuff, as well, with the capability to heal people with serious, otherwise fatal injuries. The year is 2018 a.t.b. (Ascension Throne Britannia), which... translates to 1963 AD, even though that doesn't make sense because they sure didn't have rollerblading gundams in the '60s. But there you have it.

The only "powers" in the show take the form of individuals with a "Code," and individuals with the power of "Geass." People with Codes are able to enter into contracts with anyone of their choosing (and may also establish as many contracts as they want at one time), granting them the power of Geass and essentially grooming them to become their protege. In most cases, after a certain amount of time, the Code-holder will pass along their immortality to their protege so that they may die. Geass is a difficult power to explain because its use changes depending on the person it's granted to. The power is activated in the eyes and, in some cases, requires eye contact for use. Some examples we've seen in canon are the power of absolute obedience, mind reading, time freezing, and even the power to make anyone fall in love with the user. The more Geass is used the stronger it becomes, until it could be considered uncontrollable. In addition, there are sometimes distinct (and sometimes ironic) drawbacks for using the power. As a note, there is an entire cult of people with Geass power living underground, but the majority of them are "experimental" and have defects that make them vastly inferior to those who were granted their power from a proper contract.

More detail on the setting and whatnot here as needed.

Character History: Wiki page here.

Character Personality:
Suzaku is a character of utmost dedication and focus to whatever he sets out to do, putting quite literally all of his life on the line to reach his goals. The most prominent of those would be: achieving a semblance of freedom for his home country of Japan by changing Britannia from the inside out, which he does by serving as a Knight in their military rather than aiding Area 11's rebellion (and despite having stated that Britannia is corrupt and not worth fighting for); and clearing the name of his princess, Euphemia li Britannia, who was manipulated by the power of Geass to do something that put a permanent stain on her reputation (and, furthermore, was against her wishes in every possible way) before being killed by Zero. He has been shown to sacrifice anything that he needs to in order to reach these ends, so long as the means are not unjust or illegal (in his opinion, at least) such as selling out his own best friend and fighting against his former instructor, as well as a friend from school. Suzaku is not the type to be led astray from his beliefs or his goals without a very good reason, and can be considered stubborn or "set in his ways." Relentless, he will never give up once he's set his mind to something and will never leave something half finished.

Above all, Suzaku believes in the statement that the ends do not justify the means, and a gain achieved unfairly is not worth it. It's for this reason that he takes on the task of becoming the Knight of Seven in Britannia's military in exchange for Zero's capture. By climbing the ranks and becoming the Knight of One, he would be able to take control of any Area of his choice, and would of course govern Area 11, sufficiently settling things his way. This is also why he is not able to work with his former best friend turned enemy, Lelouch, also known as Zero, since his ends are reached without consideration to the means. He and Euphemia shared similar sentiments on the matter of the conflict between Britannia and Area 11, and her death came as an extreme emotional devastation to him, one whose explanation he is and was never able to accept. One of the things he looks forward to in the future is the opportunity to ask Lelouch why he did what he did to his sister. Even after everything that has happened between them, Suzaku is shown to still have some hope that Lelouch can be saved from what he sees as a bad case of poor decision-making. Still, he constantly doubts his former friend's innocence even after witnessing his memories being erased.

Suzaku's extreme aversion to "the ends justify the means" is likely stemmed from the murder of his father, Genbu Kururugi. When Britannia first began to invade Japan, Suzaku's father believed in resisting to the end, which Suzaku saw as foolish. He was unable to convince his father of such and, in a heated moment, stabbed him to death. Although the crime was covered up, Suzaku was appalled by what he'd done, and developed a very thick guilt complex, becoming suicidal and reckless in nature. Upon joining the Britannian military, he often put himself on the front lines, hoping to receive punishment for his crime in death. Rather than simply killing himself, Suzaku opted to put himself to some better use with the skills that he had and hopefully die in the process, though that stroke of "luck" never quite seemed to come to him. Lelouch's Geass command to "live on" came as a direct opposition to everything he was, something he has since been unable to forgive Lelouch for. In the same vein, despite Suzaku being unable to put himself in immediate danger, he still pushes himself to very near the point of breaking, as if to make up for the loss of what he feels is his due punishment. Whenever Suzaku's life is in danger, the Geass activates, forcing him to react in any way possible to save his own life, no matter what. This cannot be fought against or overridden no matter how much he wants to, and is completely outside his control—he may not realize he is in danger, but should anything happen, his body will automatically react to protect himself. In all cases, since this controls both his mind and body, he only becomes aware that anything has happened after the fact and has no clear memory of his actions when defending himself.

In combat, Suzaku is the type of fighter who relies almost entirely on instinct rather than tactics, and this holds true for most everything else about him. He's the "brawn" counterpart to Zero's "brains," often counteracting one another with himself just narrowly avoiding Zero's tactical pursuits. Once he is aware of the situation, he often barrels in without thinking things through, which can sometimes result in a sink-or-swim scenario for him. He is also shown to occasionally use excessive force, and when angered, reaches the far side of completely unreasonable. It's true his temper is easy to trigger and when it happens he typically resorts to violence, but there have been times when he has been able to stop himself from acting on an impulse that may have only gotten him into further trouble (such as considering subjecting Kallen to Refrain, but deciding against it at the last moment, for the sake of not wanting to sink to Zero's level). It can be said, however, that Suzaku gives his enemies a chance to surrender before defeating them, and he is a merciful type of person—rather than pursue his enemy, he would rather rescue an endangered civilian, even if it contradicts the orders given to him. He is also shown to make choices that would prevent more fighting, rather than encourage them, a habit no doubt reinforced by Euphemia's influence on him.

Lastly, Suzaku tends to lean toward work over frivolity, and as such, his social skills have suffered greatly. Though he is quite capable of putting on a facade (and quite a facade it is—or was—he lived that lie the majority of his life, between his father's death and the closing episodes of R1), by the second season he has mostly dropped the act for a more serious and businesslike demeanor, except in part at Ashford Academy, where he sees it as necessary to behave the way he did before he left school to become a Knight of the Round. Even under a farce he is still not the most outgoing of people and can be awkward on the subject of friends, having fun, and doing generally normal things that most kids his age ought to be doing. He's fortunately well-versed in "common" things, and, having been the son of the Prime Minister, was brought up to extremely polite and disciplined, as well as someone who favors tradition. Still, he is what most anyone would call a workaholic, opting to attend meetings and briefings over seeing his own class president graduate/helping her celebrate in a zany, filler episode fashion. Suzaku has a few quirks, such as a love of cats, though that love (in Arthur's case, at the very least) is not a mutual one, and having apparently no issue with cross-dressing or wearing weird clothing for one cause or another. One might even say he has fun with it, when he allows himself that commodity.

Character Powers: Suzaku himself has no real "powers" to speak of. He has otherwise above average physical strength and agility, with the power to outrun machine gun fire and run up a wall and kick a ceiling-mounted surveillance droid off its fuckin rocker. He's also got an exceptional mind for combat (although not necessarily the most strategic—he's good at reading others, so knowing his enemy is a real big boon for him, in battle) and is pretty much the best devicer in the show.

The only other thing worth mentioning is that a Geass was placed on him by someone else. He has no control over when it activates or how he reacts to it, but its purpose is essentially to keep him from dying. Unless it is literally impossible in any way for him to save himself, the Geass will override Suzaku's mind and force him to preserve his life by any means necessary (and there are literally no other limits or conditions placed on it, since it was a hastily given command—"Live!"—therefore, it can activate as many times as needed, for as long as needed). This can include dodging, disarming, running away, counterattacking, you name it. Whatever it takes. Before, during, and just afterward, he has no memory of any of it happening, and only becomes aware of himself and his surroundings after the effects of the Geass have deactivated again.

CHARACTER SAMPLES.
First Person POV: Test drive threads: x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x.

Third Person POV:
Seeing people in odd flight suits isn't really an unusual occurrence in Suzaku's day-to-day; still, in a formal setting, like a wedding at the Chinese Federation, they definitely catch his eye. They're out of place among the suits and gowns and uniforms, but despite the active crowds, nobody else seems to take any notice (a fact which distracts Suzaku from their approach, at first, as he watches everyone go about their business as if these unidentified... devicers? enter the room. Not even the guards question them, it's bizarre). By the time he looks back around, the two of them have come straight up to him and he gives a start. Anya and Gino had just been at his side, but mysteriously, they've wandered off, leaving him alone to talk to the new... guests.

"Can I help you?" he asks, unsure whether to be on guard or polite. They could be someone politically important, considering the event. It wouldn't do to be aggressive and start an incident.

"Actually, you can," says the one on the left, in a voice Suzaku is surprised to find feminine. Both wear helmets in a style he's never seen before (and part of the reason why he's so uncomfortable is perhaps because that behavior reminds him of Zero). "You're a Knight, aren't you?"

Suzaku nods. Both helmeted figures glance toward each other almost imperceptibly, then back to Suzaku again. He's beginning to feel tense—something isn't right here. Why hasn't anyone else noticed them? Partygoers brush past him, but not the newcomers, as if there were some kind of bubble around them. "The Knight of Seven," he finally answers, urging himself to remain focused. It's just his imagination. Nothing more.

"So your job is to protect people."

"That's part of my job."

Another imperceptible glance between the strangers. Suzaku's brow furrows uncomfortably. "Can I ask you to identify yourselves?"

"In good time, Knight of Seven! We just want to make a proposition." Now it's the one on the right speaking, their voice higher, also feminine. So they're female pilots? He's not sure if that makes him feel any better. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime offer."

"I'm not interested," Suzaku responds immediately.

"You haven't even heard it yet," says lefty. She leans forward, raising one finger. "On the contrary, we think you'll be very interested."

Suzaku's eyes drift to the crowds around him. He spots Gino wafting through the nobles and chatting away, a plate of food balanced in his hand. At one point he turns in Suzaku's direction and, in a rare gesture, Suzaku signals for him. In any normal case, the other knight would've easily come running to his side, but not this time. He doesn't even seem to see it. He just turns and begins heading in a different direction, oblivious.

Something isn't right here. His gaze focuses on the two intruders that he's now sure must be Geass users. They seem to sense his suspicion and give him a little space, which does close to nothing to actually relax him. "What do you want?" He can't even have the guards detain them. Nobody can even see him.

"We want to help you save the world," says lefty. "We know how to put a stop to your enemy."

The tell-tale giveaway slips from Suzaku's mouth before he can stop it. "Zero?"

That's all the information the recruiters need. They're smiling behind their masks, nodding, gesturing. "Zero. We have some intel you'd be interested in, and we'd be glad to talk it over someplace a little more—private."

Leave, with them? Every warning sign flashes in his head, something's wrong. But it's tempting, these people only he can see. He knows better than to assume that Zero doesn't have other enemies, or perhaps it's C.C. they want to get to, but going through him... they know something he doesn't. "How can I be sure this isn't some kind of trap? Why offer me intel without a catch? You want something from me."

"All we want," says righty, waving her hand vaguely toward the door, "is for you to come with us. For obvious reasons, we can't discuss the details here. You agree to come along and lend us your services in saving your world, we'll give you all the info you need to take Zero down."

For a split second, he hangs on "your world." But then it disappears from his mind as quickly as it stuck. "Okay." He can handle it. As much as he'd like to signal to someone else what he's about to do, perhaps doing so would raise too many questions. Only he and a handful of others know about the intricate details of Zero, Geass, and all the rest, anyway.

"Then you'll come with us? You realize there's no turning back. We're going a long way, but it'll all be worth it."

"Where, exactly?"

"To a place where you'll have all the tools you need to create peace, once and for all."

Peace. The word sticks in his craw, bittersweet. Every temptation to say no is overridden by the thought that if Euphie were here, she would be urging him to look into it. Peace is never not worth saying yes to. He relaxes, a sign of assent, and the recruiters turn toward the door. Lefty looks back over her shoulder at him. "You coming?"

"Yes," he says, and walks out the door with them.

CHARACTER ITEMS.
Pick a Team: Green (assault). *note! With the potential for highly imbalanced teams, I'd be willing to stick Suzaku on the red (surveillance) team if it would help. He does work best as a frontline fighter, but is also sometimes deployed in canon as a "secret weapon" type. Up to you!

Mission Freebie: The Lancelot, his Knightmare Frame.
Personal Item or Weapon: His wallet, containing his Rounds ID card and the pin Euphemia gave to him. Or, if that's too much, then just the pin.

Character Inventory:
- Rounds uniform, with cape
- A plain knife, taken from someone else (confiscated)
- Wallet (confiscated)
- USB key to the Lancelot (confiscated)
